The Japanese auto manufacturer Toyota made a big announcement at the Geneva Motor Show. Actually, they reported that they will stop selling diesel cars in Europe by the end of this year.

The company will keep selling diesel vehicles like the Hilux truck, Land Cruiser SUV and Proace van though, mostly for the demand of these types of vehicles (with a lot of space to store and a powerful motor) by the consumers, but nothing more.

“DIESEL WILL BE PHASED OUT IN OUR PASSENGER CARS IN 2018”
SAID JOHAN VAN ZYL, PRESIDENT OF TOYOTA MOTOR EUROPE

The diesel scandal of the German manufacturer, accused of fraud regarding the anti-pollution system, had heavy consequences. Indeed, several big cities in France and Germany have taken a lot of measures to ban diesel cars from circulation.

Consequently, many consumers criticized diesel technology and show a decline in interest.

Actually, they mainly took the decision due to an increase in the hybrid cars demand from consumers; since sales jumped 38% year-on-year. Indeed, diesel cars represent only 10% of cars sold, against 41% for hybrid version of cars. Therefore it’s better to withdraw the diesel cars from the market and focus on hybrid cars which not only interest consumers more but also have a better effect on the environment because they create less pollution.
